I was born and raised, with two older brothers and a sister, in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains in Northern California, by parents who valued nature and gave us many opportunities to be a part of it.

Landed in the Herzig Adventure Farm and Corn Maze
Penelope the Pea-Popping Pigeon came down from out of the sky,
She landed in our corn maze, and there refused to fly.
We watched her from our watch tower, and wondered what she’d do,
She smelled all the corn stalks and tightened up her shoes.
Penelope the Pea-Popping Pigeon suddenly began to walk,
And tripping over a haybale, she fell on her face in the stalks.
Corn was stuck on the end of her beak, more was on her head,
She looked around and thought for sure, she simply must be dead.
Penelope the Pea-Popping Pigeon got bored with our maze and corn,
Flew over the wall and landed in the Herzig Adventure Farm, where all the cows were born
Landed in Our Halloween Haunted House
Penelope the Pea-Popping Pigeon came down from out of the sky,
She landed in our Halloween haunted house, and there refused to fly
We watched her from our living room, and wondered what she’d try,
She grabbed the screeching owl and kissed the pirate’s eye.
And peering in our window her heart leapt with joy,
As she watched a perky pint-sized costume-wearing boy.
Through the window Penelope watched and wondered what he’d dare,
He licked a hairy spider and put it in his hair.
Penelope the Pea-Popping Pigeon gave up the idea of eating,
Then flew off to join the children for a night of Trick-or-Treating
Landed on the RODEO
Penelope the Pea-Popping Pigeon came down from out of the sky,
She landed in the rodeo and there refused to fly.
The announcer said, “Stop!” — the rodeo clown said, “No!”
But Penelope the Pea-Popping Pigeon’s bucking bull went on with the show.
The buzzer sounded–the crowd wanted to hide,
But Penelope the Pea-Popping Pigeon continued the crazy ride.
When all the cowboys in the arena were gone, she rode her bull as before,She rode him round and round and round, and then around some more.
Landed on the Church
Penelope the Pea-Popping Pigeon came down from out of the sky,
She landed on the Church, and there refused to fly
Penelope the Pea-Popping Pigeon was sliding all over the pews,
Then settled down to take the sacrament and listen to good news.
We watched her from our family’s bench and wondered if she’d pray,
She sang the hymns, sat quietly, and felt Jesus’ love that day
Penelope the Pea-Popping Pigeon went home with new faith and glee,Thankful for the friends and truth the Lord blessed her to see.
Landed on Our Christmas Tree
Penelope the Pea-Popping Pigeon came down from out of the sky,
She landed in our Christmas tree, and there refused to fly.
Penelope the Pea-Popping Pigeon flew up as we began to sing,
Was caught in the branches of our Christmas tree, with tensile around her wings.
A cranberry was stuck on the end of her beak, another was on her head,
She looked around and thought for sure, she simply must be dead.
Frosting was stuck on the end of her beak–my cake was on her head, She looked around and thought for sure she simply must be dead.
Landed on My Birthday Cake
Penelope the Pea-Popping Pigeon came down from out of the sky,
She landed on my birthday cake, and there refused to fly.
We watched her from a distance and wondered what was next,
She licked the icing off my cake and sent her friend a text.
In the frosting, Penelope the Pea-Popping Pigeon suddenly began to skate,
And tripping over my candles, she fell on her face on a plate.
Frosting was stuck on the end of her beak–my cake was on her head, She looked around and thought for sure she simply must be dead.
